School is a gateway to knowledge and plays an important role in building up a love for reading. The school library is integral to this educational process. Encouraged at the right age, the children are sure to develop a love for books. “Catch ’em Young” is, therefore, the motto of the school libraries.
According to IFLA/UNESCO School Library Manifesto, “the school library provides information and ideas that are fundamental to functioning successfully in today’s
information and knowledge-based society.
The school library equips students with life-long learning skills and develops the imagination enabling them to live as responsible citizens”. It plays this role by selecting, acquiring and providing access to appropriate sources of information. The school library offers books and other resources ranging from print to electronic media for completion of various school projects and assignments, for the acquisition of knowledge about a topic taught in class, for finding information about a hobby or current events and news, etc.
PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya Sector 5 Dwarka (Shift-II) has a wide collection of about 11,314 selected books and educational CD/DVD’s in almost all subjects ranging from English/Hindi Fiction, Non-fiction, reference books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, etc. Apart from the above library also have collection of e-books (approx 438 books) & audio books.
The Vidyalaya Library subscribes to leading newspapers and educational magazines, every year Book exhibitions, Bookfair and various competitions related to reading and
creative writing is organized to encourage supplementary reading.
Mission: The Library provides a welcoming learning environment for students and staff; supports the school’s aims and curriculum; encourages the love of reading and the development of students’ independent learning skills.

Opening Hours: The library is open every school day from 11:30 a.m. to 05:30 p.m.
Library Periods: According to the Library Policy the students of Class VI-XII can visit the library for the issue and return of the books during their library periods. They can refer books and participate in library activities during this time.
Library Automation: The stock and services of the library are automated powered by e-granthalaya software provided from National Informatics Centre, Department of
Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology,
Government of India. The software has been designed by a team of experts from
software as well as Library and Information Science discipline
